| Born with a bone deformity causing one leg to be longer than the other, Julio was unable to run and play with the other children. At the age of 9 Julio was brought to the United States.
Numerous difficult surgeries were required after which Julio was able to walk. An associate of Hearts In Motion sponsored Julio so he could stay in the US to complete his high school education.
He returned to Guatemala and is attending the University of San Carlos in Guatemala City were he is studying Medicine. His decision to study medicine was influenced by the compassion and professionalism of the volunteers of Hearts In Motion. His desire is to give back to others so that they too may walk and find themselves and their futures.
